Irene Pearl O'Connor
Irene Pearl O'Connor, 78, of 3301 Sterling Drive in Burlington died at 9:32 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
The funeral service was at 9 a.m. today at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial was in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. O'Connor was born April 22, 1922, in Morning Sun, the daughter of John S. and Martha P. Teberg Campbell. She married Paul Lawrence O'Connor in 1941 in St. Patrick, Mo. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering at the Hospital. She was office secretary at the Pentagon during WWII. She went to work for the winter of 1959 at John Morell and retired in 1985. She was the first female office manager, with secretary of the year awards. She later became administrative assistant to the president of John Morell, the highest position held by a female at the time.
Survivors include one daughter, Jolene Leier of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Denis O'Connor of Manhatten Beach, Calif., Edward O'Connor of Panama City, Fla. and Gary O'Connor of Burlington; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother.
