Ireta Fern Janecek, age 97, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26th, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice Compassus. Ireta was born March 4, 1922, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Florence (Baker) Smith. She attended New Haven Country School. Ireta was united in marriage to Melo Janecek on March 12, 1941.
Ireta was a life long resident of Washington County. She was a homemaker and helped on the family farm operation. Ireta was proud of her family and cherished the time spent with them. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, listening to country music, doing crossword puzzles and she loved to go fishing.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Robertson and husband Don of Washington, Iowa; son, Wayne Janecek and wife Judy of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Dawn Peterson and husband Tim of Washington, Iowa; Debbie Bruty and husband Greg "Bud" of Washington, Iowa; Kevin Janecek and wife Angie of Washington, Iowa; Craig Janecek of New Haven, Connecticut; Kelly Wittmayer and husband Dan of Washington, Iowa; seven great grandchildren: Megan Bruty, Tommy Peterson, Dalton Bruty, Madelyn Janecek, Hayden Janecek, Sophie Wittmayer and Alex Wittmayer; two great great grandchildren: Kagan Bruty and Maxson Crawford; two sisters: Alberta Miller and Fran Darbyshire as well as sister-in-law, Virginia Smith, all of Washington.
Ireta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melo in 1972; son Gary Janecek in 1975; brother, Donald Smith; brothers-in-law, Merle Miller and Allen Darbyshire and longtime companion, Howard "Junior" Custer.
