Ival Heaton
Ival Heaton, 78, of Sacramento, Ca. passed away suddenly in his sleep, September 23, 2000 at his home.
He was born in Lee County, July 12, 1922 to Mabel and Herbert Heaton. At the age of three the family moved to Mount Pleasant.
Ival attended Mt. Pleasant schools, and one year at Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served during World War II on the submarine USS Saury. On December 14, 1944 he married Elizabeth O`Connor, also of Mount Pleasant, at St. Alphonsus Church. August of 1945 he was discharged from the Navy and opened an electrical appliance store on the west side of the square.
In 1950, due to health reasons, he moved to a drier climate. He was employed at the atomic facility in New Mexico. Later he moved to Pueblo, Colorado with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1955, the family moved to Sacramento, California, where he was employed 14 years by the Aerojet Corporation in the missile testing area as a senior engineer. He later was employed by Procter and Gamble as an automatic controls engineer in their Sacramento plant.
In 1981 he suffered his first heart attack and was advised to retire. During his retirement years he made many visits back to Mount Pleasant and attended his 60th high school class reunion in May of this year.
He was a member of these organizations: American Legion, Bob Tribbey Post of Mount Pleasant, Sacramento Chapter of World War II Submarine Veterans, Knights of Columbus #953, and Bishop Manogue 4th degree. He was also a football enthusiast and a talented woodworker.
Ival was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Austin. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 55 years; daughter Janice of Roy, New Mexico; sons Joseph of Wilton, Calif., Thomas of Woodland, Calif., Patrick of Kobe, Japan, Paul of Mt. Shasta, Calif., John of Davis, Calif., and Timothy of Newport Beach, Calif., and by sixteen grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial was held at Sacred Heart Church, Sacramento, on the 29th of September, and internment was in St. Mary`s Cemetery, Sacramento, California.
