WELLMAN ? Ivan Wayne Ulin, 89, of Wellman, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City following a short illness.
Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 4, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City.
Mr. Ulin was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Wellman, the son of Otis and Hazel (Matthess) Ulin. He married Frances Polton on May 16, 1947, in Kinross.
He attended Daytonville School and Wellman High School before enlisting in the Navy. He served on the USS Tucson covering the South Pacific from 1944-46. He ran the Sinclair Station in Wellman for 21 years, as well as being a longtime lover of antiques. In addition to work and family, he spent many happy hours on nearby rivers, fishing.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas Ulin and wife Deborah of Wellman, and Thomas Ulin and wife Carmela of Wellman; three daughters, Cynthia Prohosky of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Ulin of Washington, and Heather Fleming and husband Kenny of Marengo; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances, in 2004; and two brothers, Cedric, and Ronnie Ulin.
