COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Jack Swain, 76, of Columbus Junction, died Thursday, July 28, 2016, in Columbus Junction.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Following services at the funeral home, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Following the luncheon, burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Louisa County Ambulance Service.
Vernon Jackson Swain Jr. was born Jan. 30, 1940, in Muscatine, the son of Vernon J. and Dorothy (Goddard) Swain.
He graduated from Columbus Junction Community Schools. He served with the Army until called home to take over the family farm due to his father?s illness. He was a farmer and a member of Ducks Unlimited and of Farm Bureau, and was a Township Treasurer. He enjoyed trap shooting, deer hunting, fishing, playing baseball in his younger years, and traveling on cruises, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Surviving are four siblings, Mary Wilson and husband Dave of Letts, Ron Swain of Santa Ana, California, Ken Swain and wife Betsy of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sharon Blom and husband Harv of Pella; four nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Louis.
