Jackie Ray Smith, age 68, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his residence in Washington following a valiant battle

with cancer.

Per Jackie's request, his body was deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Private family services are planned with a public celebration of life visitation to be held from 1

to 4 p.m. Saturday, August

Jackie was born July 2, 1953, in Brighton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Volger) Smith. He was a 1971 graduate of Washington High School. Jackie was united in marriage to Kathie Marie Bowen on December 9, 1973, and they made their home in the Brighton and Washington area.

He retired from Procter and Gamble in Iowa City, and was previously employed for a number of years at Modine Manufacturing/Perfex in Washington.

Jackie had an often-irreverent sense of humor, and was a quick-witted fellow who enjoyed life, family members and good friends. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer throughout his life, and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of good friends and fellow "church-goers." Jackie doted on and was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and always encouraged them to be the best version of themselves and to live life to the fullest.

Those left to honor Jackie's memory include his wife, Kathie of Washington, Iowa; children, Joseph Smith and wife Sara of Urbandale, Iowa, Jennifer Drost and husband Nick of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Steven Smith of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren, Wesley Drost and wife Michelle, Cooper Drost, Abby Drost, Evie Smith and honorary granddaughter, Stacy Bowen. He is also survived by three siblings, Tim Smith, Nancy Kelly and Connie Shelangoski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Shirley Gordon, Gary Smith, Jerry Smith, Peggy Ambrose, Dennie Smith and Rick Smith.
