James E. Dunbar
James Elza Dunbar, 87, of rural Washington, died Tuesday afternoon February 16, 2016, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. He was born May 18, 1928, north of Brighton to Robert L. ?Dutch? and Nina E. Hole Dunbar. Jim grew up and lived all of his life north of Brighton near the Skunk River, attended Indian Creek Country School and graduated from Brighton High School in 1947. He married Juanita Jean Zickefoose at the Presbyterian Church in Brighton August 30, 1948. Jim started working for Roe Heating and Air Conditioning in Washington and later started Hawkeye Sheet Metal Heating and Cooling in Ainsworth with two friends. He moved the business to his home in Brighton after acquiring full ownership. He had many hobbies, including flying, hunting mushrooms, hunting arrowheads, fishing, hunting, trapping, motorcycles, playing guitar and using his metal detector. Jim had attended the Brighton First Church of God for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife Jean, 2 sons: Jim (Debbie) Dunbar of Pleasant Plain and Sherriff Jerry (Pam) Dunbar of Washington and two daughters: Jeana Crile (Tonnie) of Washington and Julie Smith (Doug) of Washington, 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, five sisters: Dora Walker, Harriet Heth, Alice Stout, Grace Hobday and Isabelle Dunbar and four brothers: Robert, Marion, Arthur and Franklin Dunbar.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday February 20, 2016, at the Brighton First Church of God with Pastors Ryan Meader, Rick Zickefoose, Kevin Dice and Dr. Mike Reighard officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Hook Cemetery near his home. Visitation will begin at 3 P.M. Friday, February 19, 2016, at the Brighton First Church of God with the family present 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Memorials for the Brighton First Church of God may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 3095 Hwy 1 South, Washington, IA 52353. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
