JAMES FRANCIS "JIM" CARR
Oskaloosa
James Francis "Jim" Carr, 85, formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away on March 17, 2021, at The Village in Indianola.
Jim was born on August 6, 1935, in Melrose, to John W. and Agnes L. (Judge) Carr. He went to country school before his family moved to Oskaloosa. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1952. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he proudly served for over twenty years.
On June 6, 1955, he was united in marriage to Donna Grace Walker in Oskaloosa. Together they raised four children. Throughout their marriage they lived in many states and also in Japan for several years. They returned to Iowa in 1973, following his retirement from the Air Force. They spent the last twenty years dividing their time between Oskaloosa and Winter Haven, Florida.
Jim was a true sports fan and an avid golfer for many years. He spent much of his retirement traveling and especially enjoyed cruises. He loved to talk and tell stories; he never met a stranger. His greatest joy was his family. He spent countless hours attending ball games, recitals, and plays. He loved life and those he shared it with. He was one of a kind and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, 3 children: James Michael "Mike" (Lisa) Carr of Washington, IA; Julie Kuhnhenn, Kansas City, MO; Timothy (Michele Vermillion) Carr of Pleasant Hill, IA; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer (Zach) Craig; Courtney Kuhnhenn; Carlie Kuhnhenn; Grady Carr; 3 great-grandchildren: Noah, Connor, and Sawyer Craig; a sister: Mary Agnes Moore of Scottsdale, AZ, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Stephen Carr in 2020; a grandson: Justin Carr; his son-in-law: Brent Kuhnhenn; a sister: Joanne Anderson.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, March 23 at the VFW in Oskaloosa. Family will receive guests from 3-5 P.M., military honors will begin at 3. Mask usage and social distancing is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW.
