James Garland

James Burton Garland, 90, of Luling, La., formerly of New London, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Ormond Nursing and Care Center in Destrehan, La.

      The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial was in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Odd Fellows Lodge 56 of New London.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Hobert Burton Garland of Luling; three granddaughters, three stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Hunt of Wapello and Freda Klingenberg of Eaton, Colo.; and a brother, Donald Garland of Stafford, Va.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
