James was born November 5, 1932, at his home in Salem, Iowa, the son of Stacy and Gwendoline (Pauly) Moeller. He attended Catholic School in Houghton, Iowa, graduating from St. John’s Catholic High School. James was united in marriage to Eileen Vittetoe on July 26, 1958, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this month.
James farmed all his adult life until his retirement in 1998. During retirement, he kept himself busy working for Hayes Carpentry for 10 years. He was a member of St. James Church and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight and volunteered many years helping at the Knights of Columbus Pancake Day and KC Fish Fry. He was a former member of the Washington County Pork Producers and the Corn and Soybean Association. James and Eileen loved dancing the waltz, foxtrot, and polka with their numerous dancing friends in Iowa and Texas. James was an avid Hawkeye fan. He also enjoyed family gatherings, where he spent his time playing cards and games with his grandchildren. James was soft-spoken and a man of few words, but his quick-witted remarks were sure to put a smile on your face. Most important to James was his Catholic faith and the love of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Washington; daughter, Bonita (Carl) Voss of Lexington, Kentucky; son, David (Kris) Moeller of Keota, Iowa; son, Edward (Susan) Moeller of Washington, Iowa; son, Donald (Sarah) Moeller of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Nancy (Jason) Bell of Washington, Iowa; grandchildren: Erika (Michael) Mahlbacher, Caleb Voss, Allison (Taylor) McKibbon, Lauren (Joe) Pins, Logan (Arissa) Moeller, Nikole (Jared) Eichelberger, Matt (Carly) Moeller, Vanessa Moeller, Hunter Bell, Jameson Bell, Demeri Bell, and six great-grandchildren: Grayson and Asher Moeller; Luke, Grace, and Abigail Eichelberger; and Levi Moeller.
