James Herman Leichty, 70, of rural Wayland, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Washington Care Center following declining health.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Bethel Mennonite Church with the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday at the Bethel Mennonite Church with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening. Memorials have been established to Bethel Mennonite Church or Hospice of Washington County. Beatty Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Leichty was born May 4, 1935 in Wayland, the son of Herman and Florence Christner Leichty. He married Dorothy Schrock on June 4, 1955 at the Lower Deer Creek Church in Kalona.
Survivors include his wife, six children, Joyce and her husband Norman Schrock of Kalona, Loran and his wife Chris Leichty of Wayland, Janice and her husband Lynn Hostetler of Kalona, Brenda and her husband Tom Roth of Dorchester, Neb., Barbara and her husband Ron Jones of Middlebury, Ind. and Edward and his wife Amy Leichty of Archbold, Ohio; brothers Vernon and his wife Karen Leichty of Wayland, Clarence and his wife Julie Leichty of Kaloa, Ronald and his wife Karen Leichty of Milford, Neb. and Leland and his wife Esther Leichty of Wayland; sisters Alice and her husband Mel Roth of Coralville and Jeanene Roth of Milford, Neb; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two granddaughters and one brother-in-law.
