James R. Hansen Jr., 53, of Ainsworth, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at his home in Ainsworth suddenly and peacefully from heart problems. A memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation be made to the American Heart Association or to a general memorial for Jim. Jim was born March 8, 1968, in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from ITT with a bachelor's degree in internet security. He was awarded head of his class in the associate degree program and second to the valedictorian for his bachelor's degree.
Jim was employed at Tyson Foods Inc. He was an avid computer gaming and Renaissance festival enthusiast. Jim enjoyed family and friend gatherings, reading, watching movies, building computers, creating 3D gaming characters, traveling, drawing, collecting gaming and Star Trek/Star Wars items, memories of his trip to England and the Minnesota Vikings. He never gave up hope that the Vikings would someday be on top. He will be remembered by many family members for his famous baked beans at potluck meals. He loved his furry brothers, Emmitt and Dougal; and furry sisters, Lily, Tessa and Maddie.
Jim is survived by his mother, Marty Beard of Marion, Iowa; father, Jim Hansen (Sherrie Hazen) of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Jennifer (Michael) Schmelzer of Muscatine, Iowa; stepsister, Allison Hazen-Barnes (John) of Fairfax, Iowa; and stepbrother, Rob (Jill) Hazen of Walford, Iowa. He will be missed by his stepnieces, Anna Barnes, Paige Hazen amd Hope Hazen; and stepnephews: Ryan Barnes and Will Hazen. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and very special friends, Byron and Jennifer Poole and family, will remember him with love and many memories of spending time together.
Jim was preceded in death by his precious nieces, Julie Ann Lee and Sammantha Dawn Schmelzer; stepfather, Arthur Beard; and grandparents: Otto and Nellie Hansen and Don and Zula Meekham.
