James (Jim) N. Downing, 71, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

Jim was born Nov. 20, 1949, in Milton, Iowa, to Orville and Irene (Riedel) Downing. He married Barbara Downing on Oct. 23, 1976. She preceded him in death in October 2013. They had been married 36 years.

Jim served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed spending time with family and lending a hand whenever anyone needed anything. When he wasn't on the go, you would find him tinkering on projects or bird watching.

Jim will be missed by his children, Marcella Downing (Tyler Rysdam) of Fairfield and Brandon Downing of Davenport; two sisters, Carolyn Talley and Janet Bitner, and one brother, Victor (Cleone) Downing.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Irene; and his wife, Barb Downing.

Memorials may be made to the Arc of Jefferson County. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
