James L. Scott

James L. Scott, 75, of Mt. Pleasant died at 12:58 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The Requiem Holy Eucharist will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, from the St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Wayne K. Kamm as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Grant Cemetery near Rome. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to the education of his sons, Robert and James.

Mr. Scott was born March 19, 1925, in Fairfield, the son of Walter and Bertha Danielson Scott. He married Barbara Strong on Oct. 28, 1979 in Kahoka, Mo. He was a member of the St. Michael's Episcopal Church, a self-employed contractor, and enjoyed stock-car racing and Iowa Basketball. He was employed by the former Sheets Motors.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Shannon Schwerin of Mt. Pleasant, Mitchell Schwerin of Wayland, Jack Scott of Lomax, Ill., James Scott, Jr. and Robert Scott, both of Wayland; two daughters, Cynthia Seberg of Mt. Pleasant and Monica Sanchez of Biggsville, Ill.; four stepchildren, Patrick Reed of Marshville, Mo., Diana Scott and Heather Wagner, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Melissa Kingery of Coralville; one brother, Dan Scott of Burlington; one sister, Beverly Kaighin of Bettendorf; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
