On Sept. 3, 1944, in Kirksville, Mo., James Oren was born to Curtis and Julia (Steele) Matheney. Jim received his education in La Plata, Mo. In 1964, he married Judy DeSpain. On Dec. 29, 1990, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Jim married Donna (Burky) Ehrhart.
Jack of all trades, Jim began his work career constructing senior housing in LaPlata, Mo., prior to farming for several years. Jim then became regional manager for Derby Stations in Colorado and when the opportunity was offered moved to Iowa. He next worked for Versatile (Gabeline's) where he was general manager of tractor and truck sales. Later he owned a franchise for Montgomery Ward, and owned Robo Car Wash in Mount Pleasant. He worked in sales at McWhirter's and Christner Motors, owned and operated Mount Pleasant Glass, and finally retired from farming to enjoy his love of fishing and the outdoors.
Known by "Acey", Jim was a long-time board member of Pheasants Forever, and was a member of Whitetails and Ducks Unlimited. He also was a true St. Louis Cardinals fan and learned to be a Patriots fan. His daily routine included fishing whenever weather permitted. Jim enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada. He enjoyed woodworking and liked to do chores for his children and grandchildren and anyone else who needed help.
Along with his wife, Donna, Jim is survived by two sons, Brad (PJ) Matheney of St. Louis, Mo., and Ryan (Sheila) Matheney of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; one daughter, Jill (Robin) Daniel of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; two step-daughters, Michelle (Mike) Ehrhart-Everitt of Urbandale, Iowa, and Jennifer Ehrhart Oldfield of Clive, Iowa; one step-son, Joshua W. (Lindsay) Ehrhart of Owensboro, Ky.; one brother, Warner Matheney of Bevier, Mo.; two step-brothers, David Schillie of Kansas City, Mo., and Randy Schillie of La Plata, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
