James Walter “Jim” Reed, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Keota, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his residence.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Interment will follow at Keota Cemetery. Visitation be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the funeral home. Memorials have been established for the West Chester Community Church and the United Presbyterian Home. Jim was born on January 28, 1936, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Margaret (Hammes) Reed. He graduated from Keota High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On February 2, 1957, he married Arbie Weber in Richland.
Jim spent most of his life in the Keota area where he was a farmer, before moving to Washington nearly eight years ago. He loved to fix things and was always looking for a project to work on.
He is survived by wife, Arbie Reed of Washington, Iowa; son, Mike (Hope) Reed of Keota, Iowa; daughter, Linda Ahrens of Keota Iowa; daughter, Katherine (Jerome) Jaeger of South English, Iowa; and son, Mark (Robin) Reed of Keota, Iowa; along with 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Ellen Stelton; and sisters-in-law, Janice Reed, Audrey Reed, Mary Reed, and Marcella Reed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Theresa Reed; brothers, Eugene, Cletus, Hubert, Edmund, and Dan Reed; sister, Joanne Luttenegger; and brothers-in-law, Harold Luttenegger and Howard Stelton.
