PHOENIX, Arizona ? Jane Marie Rae, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, in Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Services will be at a later date. Donations may be made to either the Washington Public Library (115 W. Washington St., Washington, IA 52353) or Friends of the Peoria Public Library (Attn: Jean Warren, 8401 W. Monroe St., Peoria, AZ 85345). The donations will be directed to the biography and children?s collections, two of her favorites.
Mrs. Rae was born May 29, 1933, in Atlantic, the daughter of E. Merle Walker and Howard J. Fitzgerald. She married Earl Francis Rae in 1956.
She graduated from Simpson College in Indianola with a degree in teaching. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority. She was an elementary teacher and continued teaching as a substitute teacher until her retirement. Early childhood education and literacy were important platforms to her, and she instilled the importance of reading and education in her children. She and her husband raised their four children in Washington and Indianola before retiring to Phoenix, Arizona.
Surviving are four children, Nancy and husband Kielty of Shenzhen, China, Vicki and Meech Mladenovic of Dallas, Texas, Jodi and Troy Donley of Houston, Texas, and James and Xiaodan Wang of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Bishop; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, in 2005.
