Jan was born on March 22, 1943, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Leona (Bales) Eagle. On February 8, 1964, she was united in marriage to William John Neal in Riverside, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.
Jan lived most of her life in Riverside. She retired in 1996 to enjoy her family and travel the world. For many years, Jan and Bill wintered in different spots, finally settling in Mesa, Arizona. After the passing of the love of her life, Bill, in 2015, Jan remained in Arizona for several years, returning to the Midwest in 2020 to be nearer to her family. She had a profound passion for traveling and enjoyed creating beautiful ceramics. Above all, though, she treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were truly the lights of her life.
Jan is survived by her four beloved children: Angie Husain (Abdullah) of Kuwait; Teri Miller (Rick Jirsa) of Riverside, Iowa; Vicki Hauser (Martin) of East Bend, North Carolina; and John Neal (Megan) of Riverside, Iowa. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Jan is also survived by her sisters Joan Godwin, Jean Hermann (Jim), and Karen Hoefer, as well as her sisters-in-law Linda Eagle, Roseanne Sluka, Sharon Doran, Sue Whatley (Jim), and Kelly Smith (Mark), along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, John and Alice Neal; her brothers Richard, Robert, and Herman Jr.; her sister Maxine Doughty; sister-in-law Marilyn Eagle; and her brothers-in-law Jim Godwin, Art Hoefer, Barney Doran, and Tiny Sluka.
Jan will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to Christ and her family. Her legacy of faith and love will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
The family has a deep gratitude towards Highland Ridge of Williamsburg and Essence Hospice of Amana for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
