Janice Martin
Janice Marie Martin, 73, of Shueyville, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at her home after a five-year battle with lung cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Lung Cancer Society or Wellman First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 19, 1942, near Washington, the daughter of Gerald and Ethel (Hotle) Graf.
She was married to Walter Jay Kempf, and they had three children. He preceded her in death, in July 1991. She married James C. Martin in April 2000 in North Liberty.
She retired from the University of Iowa Hospitals in January 2005.
Surviving are her loving husband and best friend Jim; three children, Jeanne Koshatka of Wellman, Jane Townsend and husband Mike of Wellman, and James Kempf and wife Michelle of Coralville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, three stepchildren, Veronica Cerka and husband David of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Remsburg and husband Clark of Concord, North Carolina, and Brian Martin of Shueyville; nine step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Shirley Brendle of Knoxville, Tennessee, Joyce Dillon and husband Jack of Wellman, and Donna Wade and husband Jon of Wellman; one stepbrother, Phil Martin and wife Shirley of Marion; one stepsister, Kay Proctor and husband Max of Drakesville; in-laws, Ken and Sue Kempf of Wellman; special family members; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Jay Kempf; her parents, Gerald and Ethel Graf; one son-in-law, Norbert Koshatka; parents-in-law, Walter John and Alice Kempf, and John and Delores Martin; and brothers-in-law, Fred Kempf, and Russell Martin.
