Jean Esther (Doran) Wells, 85, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Washington County Hospital.
Celebration of life services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington in conjunction with Evensong services. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Home or Paws and More Animal Shelter. Jean was born June 3, 1936, in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph and Marjorie (Kaye) Doran. She attended school in Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park High School. She attended Blackburn College for three years and later attended George Williams College. Jean was united in marriage to Robert "Allan" Wells on July 29, 1967, in New York City, New York.
Jean worked as the Executive Secretary for Abercrombie and Fitch Fine Imports and Sporting Goods store. She later worked as an Aide for handicapped children in the Madison, Wisconsin, Public Schools. For many years Jean opened up her home to foster adults in need. Jean was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington.
She was very active in her church, she loved to knit and sew, tend to her rose garden, and was active in Cub Scouts where she was a Den Leader trainer. Jean was very proud of her children and was active in their participation in Drum and Bugle Corps. Jean was very active in Al -Anon on a Regional and State level. After moving to the United Presbyterian Home she enjoyed fostering kittens from Paws and More Animal Shelter.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Wells) Voie of Madison, Wisconsin; grandson, Braden Geiger of Wisconsin; granddaughter, Taylor Mulroy and husband Mitch of Wisconsin; one great-granddaughter, Eliza Jean; and brother-in-law, Dick Colby of Washington, Iowa.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan, in 1995; son, David A. Wells, in 2012; brother, Jim Doran, in 1960; and sister, Betty Doran Colby, in 2020.
