Jean M. Gerber, 73, died Sunday, Sept. 30, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Elliott Chapel in New London. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., and burial will be at Burge Cemetery in New London.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial to the Lowell Street Lights c/o Elliott Chapel, 1 Redbud Lane, New London, IA 52645.
Jean was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Burlington, the daughter of Roy and Gladys Leidig. She married Darrell "Rusty" Gerber in 1953.
While living in Burlington, she taught elementary education and taught private piano, violin and organ lessons. She was also an organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. After moving to York, Penn., she was involved in early childhood education at Shiloh Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the York Area Transplant Support Group.
She is survived by her husband, daughters Linda Fetterly and Kathy Gerber of Dover, Penn., son Gary Gerber and his wife Wanda of Dover, Penn.; two brothers, Edward Leidig and his wife Mary of Hot Springs, Ark. and Ron Leidig and his wife Joyce of Richardson, Texas; two sisters-in-law, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
