Jean McCabe
Jean McCabe, 80, of New London, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. James Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at the Burge Cemetery in New London. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, and will continue until the time of the service. Memorials have been established to the New London Presbyterian Church, the American Diabetes Association, and the New London Nursing and Rehab Center.
Ms. McCabe was born March 7, 1922, the daughter of William Elmer and Lela Beryl Orndorff McCabe. She was a 1939 graduate of New London High School. She was a teller for the Farmer's State Bank, the New London State Bank and the Hawkeye Bank Trust for 32 years, retiring in December of 1986. She was also a bookkeeper for Spahn and Rose Lumber for 12 years. She was a lifetime member of the New London Presbyterian Church, a member of the United Presbyterian Women, the Dorcas Circle, and P.E.O. Chapter EV. She taught first grade Sunday school for more than thirty years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star #440, and a past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed ceramics, taking slides of her nephews and nieces, her backyard roses and driving through Geode State Park.
Survivors include a brother, Milo McCabe of New London; seven nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Isabel Maurer and Juanita McCabe.
