Jeanette Marlene (Hammen) Besser, age 90, of Lone Tree, formerly of Harper, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Jeanette was born August 28, 1934, in Harper, to Albert P. and Theresa C. (Weber) Hammen. On April 30, 1955, she married William V. Besser at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. Jeanette was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School. She was secretary - bookkeeper for Herb Osincup in Washington until her marriage. For 28 years she employed as a bookkeeper by W.C. Gretter & Sons, Inc. in Harper. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society, past President and County Secretary of the Federated Woman’s Club and was a 4-H leader for the Harper Pace Setters for many years.
Survivors include her beloved daughter: Rebecca “Becky” (Craig) Frederick of Washington; three grandchildren: Keary R. (Rachel) Quigley of Washington, Kristi L. Beneke of Independence and Nicole (Tanner) McClenahan of Washington; six great-grandchildren: Kenzie and Maci Quigley, Brooklyn and Jackson Beneke and Frederick and Fulton McClenahan and brother: Keith Hammen of Liberty, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bill in 2004 sisters: Eileen Hammen and Virginia Chamberlain and sister-in-law: Mary Hammen.
Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
