Jeffery A. Nelson

DAVENPORT ? Jeffery Alan ?Jeff? Nelson, 46, of Davenport, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, in Bettendorf Health Care Center following a two-year battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at New Life Baptist Church at 7780 West Locust Street in Davenport. Visitation will be from noon until time of service, Tuesday at the church. Burial will be on July 3 at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials may be made to Iowa Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nelson was born July 3, 1970, in Ottumwa, the son of Richard L. and Karen K. (Kephart) Nelson.

He was a graduate of Davenport Central High School, Class of 1988. In earlier years he worked alongside his father at the former Pester Derby/Coastal Mart Station on Brady Street in Davenport. Most recently he worked at the Iowa Machine Shed and Fat Boy?s Pizza. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and camping the local waterways and parks, and was an excellent cook as well. He was known as a loving son and a loyal friend, and was always there for friends and family, whether it be lending a helping hand or a sympathetic ear or giving advice on fishing. He was an avid and long-suffering Cubs fan, but got his wish to see the team finally win a World Series.

Surviving are his mother, Karen, of Davenport; his brother, Gregory and Barb Jones Nelson of Davenport; three aunts; one uncle; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; and two aunts.
