COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Jeffrey Donald Story, 64, of Columbus Junction, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, in Florida after a 17-month battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Halifax Health Hospice in Port Orange, Florida, Countryside Station, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Story was born Dec. 6, 1951, in Burlington, the son of Donald George and Emma Catherine (Fullerton) Story. He married Faith Beenblossom on Nov. 24, 1995, in Columbus Junction.
He never met a stranger, and was known as a loving and caring person. He was a man of many talents ? farmer, insurance agent, hotel owner, race car driver and promoter, auctioneer, real estate agent and taxi driver. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Conesville and Columbus Junction for most of his life, until 2009, when he and his wife moved to Florida.
Surviving are one daughter, Shannon Story Hampson and husband Matt of Marion; one son, Jay Story and Katie Friel of Apex, North Carolina; three stepsons, Jamey Bender and Crystal Winters of Texas, Justin Bender and Aimee Pfanku of Muscatine, and Jason Bender and Traci Pforts of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two sisters, Jan Wagoner and husband Denny of Columbus Junction, and Pam Cherney and husband Butch of Bena, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law, Larry Beenblossom and wife Charolette of Florida, and Duane Beenblossom and wife Jill of Morning Sun; and one sister-in-law, Hope Reed and husband Michael of Keota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Diane Salemink Story.
