Jennifer Lynn Simmons, age 44, 1334 Nipa Blvd, Fairfield, died in her home at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 of ovarian cancer. She was born September 8, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Tom and Murrell Hanna Morgan.
She lived in the Mt. Pleasant and Burlington areas before her marriage to Brian Simmons on November 12, 1983 at the Antioch Church. They lived in the Antioch community on the Simmons family farm. Jennifer was employed at Books are Fun Ltd. of Fairfield for the past 10 years in the accounts payable department.
Jennifer's pastimes included many family activities, attending baseball games, both Fairfield and professional, attending high school wrestling matches and NASCAR races to support Dale Jarrett. She was a former Pleasant Plain Little League board member and helped with many Pleasant Plain teams.
She recently spent much time with her granddaughter Amber Decker of Wayland. They were the "apple of each other's eye." They enjoyed tea parties and discussing horses. Jennifer loved being a parent. Her passion was needlework and quilting, being active in the area quilting shops including CR Quilts of Fairfield.
Jennifer graduated from IHCC and lacked just a few credits from graduation from Iowa Wesleyan, her diseases both diabetes and cancer stymied her graduation.
Jennifer comes from a large family, including her husband Brian, two sons, James and Jeremy Simmons, both of Cedar Rapids, her daughter Shelly Decker and her husband Mark and granddaughter Amber of Wayland. Her mother Murrell Morgan of Burlington; three sisters, Josie Morgan of Branson, Mo., Julie Rooney of Burlington and Jackie Olsen and husband Terry of Bettendorf; three brothers, Tommy Morgan and wife Paula of Mt. Pleasant, J.P. Morgan of Burlington and Chuck Morgan and wife Tammy of Tulare, S.D. and 10 nieces and nephews on the Morgan side of the family.
She was preceded in death by her father, one brother Darin Morgan and one niece, Janelle Brockett.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with Pastor Barney Lawler assisted by Pastor John Benedict officiating.
Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home with family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Simmons children and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1334 Nipa Blvd, Fairfield, IA 52556.
