                                    Jerry D. Short
Jerry Dean Short, 23, of Brighton, died Monday, May 22, 2017, in Wayland.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 26, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home, where family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the family?s use.
Mr. Short was born April 23, 1994, the son of Jerry and Lynda (Hemsted) Short. He married Dystany Ford on Sept. 26, 2015, at his parents? home in Wayland.
He graduated from WACO High School. He farmed for Steve Kauffman during high school until 2015, when he began working at River Products in Coralville. He was most recently employed by Cornerstone Excavating in Washington. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, being outdoors, collecting Scooby Doo memorabilia and spending time with his boys and taking care of his family.
Surviving are his wife, Dystany, of Brighton; two sons, Brantley, and Caleb; his parents, of Wayland; one sister, Alexis Hemsted of Boulder, Colorado; two brothers, Joseph Andrew Short of Anamosa, and Justin Leroy Short of Cedar Rapids; his paternal grandmother, Nancy Short of Ottumwa; his maternal grandmother, Lavada Hemsted of West Plains, Missouri; one nephew; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harley, in November 2016; his paternal grandfather, Gary Short; and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Hemsted.
