FLORENCE, Ky. ? Jerry Van Lowry, 69, of Erlanger, Ky., and formerly of Skaneateles, N.Y., died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the home of his daughter.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Florence [Ky.] Alliance Church.
Mr. Lowry was born June 22, 1946, in Washington, the older son of Homer and Frieda Lowry. He married Katherine Barrett on Dec. 28, 1969.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1964, Muscatine Junior College in 1966, Truman University in 1969, and Rochester Institute of Technology (about 1988) with a degree in manufacturing engineering. He taught high school industrial arts in central Iowa right after college. He taught in community colleges in Iowa and New York. He then switched to tool design in industry for more than 25 years in Iowa, Illinois, and New York. He was a manufacturing engineer for Welch Allyn. For the last 13 years, he ran a small tractor work business in Skaneateles, N.Y. He served in the local churches that he attended. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church in Rose Hill, N.Y. He enjoyed his friends and customers, and he loved tractors and the outdoors. Family was important to him. Having been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in the summer of 2014, he spent the last several months of his life cared for by his family.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Rebecca Naas and husband Daniel of Erlanger, Ky., and Sarah Riehl and husband Seth of Port Jervis, N.Y.; five grandchildren; one brother, Steve Lowry and wife Glenna; and nephews and cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by one son, Andrew Lowry (husband of Melani).
