Jess Scott Mills, 49, of Batavia, died at 7:18 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born Jan. 1, 1970, in Fairfield, to Jackie "Jack" and Nancy Myers Mills. Jess married Wendy Dawn Covert on June 8, 2013.

A 1989 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jess had served with the U.S. Army. He had worked as a CNA in Sigourney, worked in various factories and was a truck driver.

Jess was a wonderful artist and enjoyed drawing and whittling. He had been involved in Boy Scouts in his youth.

Surviving is his wife, Wendy; children, Willoh Mills of Farson, and Shawna Forney and William Forney, both of Batavia; a grandson, Jasper Forney; his father, Jack Mills of Bloomfield; a brother, Jason Mills; a sister, Amy Sanders; three nephews, Kristian, Konnor and Isaac; and a niece, Ambrozia.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy; and grandparents, Gaylord and Reva Myers.

His body has been cremated. Private services will be held.
