Jim was born Sept. 19, 1941, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of James Martin and Lora Lucille (Gordner) Munn. He resided in Burlington, Iowa, until the age of two when his family moved to Drakesville, Iowa. While in Drakesville, Jim attended elementary school and helped on the family farm. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1959. Jim met Oma Fern Huggins his junior year of high school and they were united in marriage on Nov. 7, 1959 in West Grove, Iowa. Jim served honorably in the Iowa National Guard.
Jim moved to Washington in 1961. He was a technician for Iowa Breeders for five years and worked part-time at Wayne's Standard and full-time at Ross Motor for two years. He opened Jim's Standard Service in 1967 and operated the station until 2001. He sold the station to his daughter and son-in-law and worked for them at Moore's BP, until his retirement in 2013. Jim attended the United Methodist Church in Washington and was a founding member of Washington County ARC and WCDC. He was a faithful attendee of Washington Demon Athletics. Jim enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, bowling, slow pitch softball and playing cards. He loved to be around people and joke with everyone. Jim believed in an honest days work for an honest days pay.
He is survived by his wife, Oma Munn; children, Teresa Munn, Anita Moore and husband George, Dana Rembold and husband Craig, Danny Munn and Russell Munn, all of Washington, Iowa; four grandsons, Bradley Sullivan, Brian (Danielle) Sullivan, Mark (Jesica) Moore and Steven (Jessica) Moore; two great-granddaughters, Alison Moore and Haley Sullivan; sister, Pattie Wray and husband Willard of West Des Moines; and brother, Jerry Munn and wife Jane of Hedrick, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Carroll and her husband; and Jim's pheasant hunting partner, Tom Carroll.
