Jimmy “Jim” J. VanErsvelde, age 84, of Montezuma, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Brooklyn Community Estate. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Father Stephen Page officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Victor American Legion, Essence of Life Hospice or the Victor Lions Club.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet of Montezuma; son, Todd (Diane) VanErsvelde of North Liberty; five grandchildren, MeKaila Burton, Courtney (Byran) Hershberger, Nicole (Kahler) Green, Jill (Asa) Campbell and Alison VanErsvelde; one great-granddaughter, Paisley Hershberger; and a brother, Jerry VanErsvelde of Grinnell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Troy, Brett and Mike VanErsvelde; sister, Betty VanErsvelde; brother, Freddie VanErsvelde; and grandson, Dan VanErsvelde.
Jimmy Joseph VanErsvelde was born January 29, 1941, in rural Montezuma, the son of Raymond Arnold and Rachel Louise (DeCraene) VanErsvelde. He was united in marriage to Janet Baltisberger on November 27, 1965, in Malcom. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1969. He was a member of the Victor American Legion. He worked in Ag-Business and farmed. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his great-granddaughter Paisley. Jim will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
