Jo Ann Stout, 90 of Washington, died Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
The memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Washington Mennonite Church with Amanda Bleichty officiating. Burial will be later at the Sandy Hook Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM, Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Washington Mennonite Church. Memorials in the name of Jo Ann Stout may be designated to either Washington, Wayland or Brighton EMS. The Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting in with arrangements.
Jo Ann was born July 5, 1934, in Washington County, the daughter of Merle Farrel and Martha Irene (Hendrickson) Smith. She attended country schools and graduated from Ainsworth High School, class of 1952. She then attended Central College at Pella, Iowa, and earned a teaching certificate. She taught school briefly before her marriage.
This marriage took place on December 27, 1956, to Richard Stout at the Fairfield Methodist Church. Mrs. Stout was baptized into the Methodist faith in 1948. She attended Washington Mennonite Church for many years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School in both faiths for over 50 years. She was also in the Mennonite Dinner Theaters. Jo Ann was an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of handwork, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She made many quilts for family and charity. Jo Ann was a member of the James Harlan Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include her husband Richard, 6 children, Mark, Anne (Marlin), Carol (Robert), Karen (Jim), Kathy (Larry) and Sara; daughter-in-law Karla; 18 grandchildren and their spouses, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Gary and Allan (Barb).
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Eric, infant sister Patricia Anne, and sister-in-law Virginia.
