JOAN M. FURGASON Washington, IA Joan M. Furgason, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Home. Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the West Chester Cemetery in West Chester, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Joan's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Joan was born July 14, 1927, in Coppock, Iowa, the daughter of Elwood A. and Opal M. (Pratt) Glasgow. Joan attended school in Washington, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Junior W. Furgason on September 6, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa. Joan was a homemaker and took pride in raising her family. She previously worked at two tailoring factories in Davenport, Iowa, and Rock Island, Illinois. She provided babysitting service in her home and worked for Washington West Motel in Washington, Iowa, Maplewood Manor in Keota, until her retirement in 1992. Joan enjoyed playing bingo, doing crosswords, jig-saw puzzles and spending time outdoors. She was an avid bowling cheerleader. She is survived by eight children: Diane Durst of West Chester, Iowa; Sharon Ellis and husband Larry of Keota, Iowa; Beverly Ellis and husband Terry of West Chester, Iowa; Patricia Hesseltine and special friend Kim of Lancaster, California; Rodney Furgason and wife Rose of Washington, Iowa; Anthony Furgason and significant other Denise Goodwin of Washington, Iowa; Shirley Furgason and significant other Leland of Columbus City, Iowa; and Karen Furgason and significant other Steve of Clutier, Iowa. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1great-great grandchild. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; one grandchild; two brother and four sisters.
