Joan Jennings Garrett, 86, of Columbus Junction, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Colonial Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Stacy-Lewis Home For Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church.
Garrett was born Feb. 3, 1930, in Redding, the daughter of Ralph and Bernice Jennings. The family later moved to Iowa City and then to West branch, where she was active in 4-H and won many awards. She graduated from West branch High School in 1948. The family later moved to a farm west of Columbus Junction. She married Charles ?Chuck? Garrett in 1953.
Her husband brought two small children into the marriage, who she later adopted. The couple later had two more children to complete the family. During her many years in Columbus Junction she was active as a member of the United Presbyterian Church and served there with the Presbyterian Women. She was also an active member of the Old Clifton Club. She was a selfless, loving mother to her children. She looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and attending their activities. She also enjoyed puzzles and playing cards.
Surviving are four children, Carla Born (Dave) of Roy, Washington, Steve Garrett (Audrey) of Show Low, Arizona, Don Garrett of Columbus Junction, and Jane Garrett (Jim Karr) of Davenport; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, and a granddaughter.
