Joanne Ancell, 81, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Fairfield Community Center (Senior Center). Memorial contributions in Joanne's honor may be directed to the Mount Pleasant Public Library or to the Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets and may be sent in care of Cranston Family Funeral Home, P.O. Joanne was born on July 12, 1937, to Ben and Mabel Taylor Thompson. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended Parson's College. On April 30, 1960, she married Carroll Ancell. The two were married almost 50 years. Joanne was a homemaker and taught music lessons for many years. She played with the Southeast Iowa Symphony, several Blue Grass bands, and did shows as Fiddlin' Granny. Joanne thoroughly enjoyed music and entertaining. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, dedicating much of her time in the past years to making weighted blankets to donate.

Those left ot honor her memory are her children, Kathleen Davidson of Fairfield, Iowa, and Frank (Mary) Ancell of Muscatine, Iowa; four grandchildren, Matt (Samantha) Ancell, Megan (Dave) Ribble, Marcus (Christy) Ancell and Brandon Hanna, as well as nine great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll; one sister, Denise Thompson; and a grandson, William Ancell.
