John A. Schinstock June 9, 1919 - January 20, 2004

John A. Schinstock, 84, of rural Salem, died at 11:23 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the church with a rosary to be recited at 3 p.m., a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m. and family present from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to St. John's Catholic Church. Link Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ray and his wife Marilyn Schinstock and Joe and his wife Cindy Schinstock, all of Salem and Mike and his wife Donna Schinstock of Donnellson; four daughters, Pat and her husband Don Daufeldt of West Liberty, Diana and her husband Paul Menke and Johnita and her husband Randy Vorwaldt, all of Fort Madison and Maria and her husband Glenn Hamm of Fairfield; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Schinstock of West Point.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
