John B. Jennings

John B. Jennings, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 12:23 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

      The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Jeffery Crawford officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Weir Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Congregate Meals program at the Henry County Senior Citizen?s Center.

      Mr. Jennings was born Sept. 14, 1928, at the Jennings Dairy Farm as one of 13 children of Edward H. and Bessie Black Jennings. He worked on the dairy farm with the family until it closed and then worked for his nephew at Jennings Service Station and on the wrecker. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

      Survivors include two brothers, Melvin and Ralph Jennings, both of rural Mt. Pleasant, and one sister, Evelyn Miller of Hedrick. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Homer, Tom and Donald Jennings, and five sisters, Ina Coburn, Edith Bonser, Ruth Parker, Jessie Weigert and Leah Laue.
