John E. Miller

John E. Miller, 53, of Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant, died at 11:47 a.m. Feb. 1, 2005, at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines.

      The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Reece Funeral Home in Ottuwma, with the Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. The military service will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial has been established.

Survivors include a daughter, Christina Schark of Indianola; two granddaughters; a sister, JoAnn Seelye of Morrison, Ill.; and a brother, David Miller of Erie, Ill.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Hamm; and a brother, Ray Miller Jr.
