John Edward 'Ned' Collins

JOHN EDWARD "NED" COLLINS

Seattle, Wash.

John Edward "Ned" Collins passed away Friday, October 2, 2020, in Seattle, WA. Ned was the son of John W. and Carolyn Dunn Collins, born in Henry County Iowa, on June 20, 1942. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1960, and served in the U.S. Air Force. Ned obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Seattle University and a Master of Arts degree in Drama from Arizona State University. Ned helped in the planning of the Chester Fritz Auditorium at the University of North Dakota where he was employed as Technical Director and taught stage management. Returning to the Seattle area, he served as Technical Director of the Seattle Opera for many years.

While a student at the University of Seattle he met Mitsuko "Mitzi" Nakajima, also a student there and they married in 1967.

Survivors include sons, John T. and Gawain Collins; grandchildren, Raphael Collins, Anya and Mila Collins; sisters, Barbara Dunn and Rebecca Alexander; an aunt, June Collins Klopfenstein; uncle, Jack H. Collins; a brother-by marriage, Charles True; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and sister, JoAnn Collins True.

Ned's wishes were to have his ashes spread in the Pacific Ocean. No formal service is planned. Contributions in Ned's memory may be given to the ALS Association.
