John Edward O’Rourke, 79, of North English, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on April 22, 2025.
John was born on March 31, 1946, the son of Leo and Theresa (Agnew) O’Rourke. He graduated from English Valleys High School in 1964 and spent his life rooted in the community he loved. On February 1, 1969, John was united in marriage to Kathy Keiser. He farmed and worked in the cattle business for several years until owning and operating a feed store in North English. He later worked at the University of Iowa until his retirement. John was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and deep devotion to family and faith.
He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English, where his presence and service were a constant for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, checking on the farm and riding his John Deere Gator around town.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathy; his son, Jason O’Rourke (Valerie), Milan, Illinois; his daughter, Kim Schleusner (Jake), Pine Island, Minnesota; and five cherished grandchildren, Trey, Michael, Allyson, Lauryn and Jenna; his brothers Joe (Joyce) O’Rourke, Jerry (Sherri) O’Rourke, Jeff (Cindy) O’Rourke and Jay (Gail) O’Rourke. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. John was preceded in death by his son Christopher John, parents, brother Jim, father- and mother-in-law Jim and Grace Keiser and brothers-in-law Stan Keiser and Gary Keiser.
A visitation was held Friday, April 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in North English. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday morning, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with a private burial following.
