John H. Miller
John H. Miller, 80, of Olds, died Tuesday, Dec. 25 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center of Winfield.
Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Olds United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Cambrian Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Olds United Church of Christ and Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
He was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Washington, the son of Earl and Katharine Edwards Miller. On July 2, 1953, he married Lois Lundeen.
Having graduated from Olds High School, his college career at Iowa State University was interrupted when he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1945. After the completion of his duty, he returned to Iowa State, where he was a member of the livestock and meat judging teams. He graduated with a degree in animal husbandry, then returned to the farm near Olds where he raised livestock and cared for the land.
He was active in 4-H and Boy Scouts, attaining the honor of Eagle Scout in 1942. He was a lifelong member of the Olds United Church of Christ, Olds American Legion, and Winfield Masonic Lodge. He served on the board of directors at Washington State Bank for 25 years and was a founding member of both the Henry County Cattleman's Association and the Henry County Pork Producers. He served as president of both boards.
He is survived by three children, Hugh Miller and his wife Betty of Winfield, Tom Miller and his wife Sharon of Winfield, and Mary Maurer and her husband Curt of Manchester; and six grandchildren.
His parents and wife preceded him in death.
