RICHLAND ? John ?Jack? Hesseltine, 92, of Richland, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in SunnyBrook Assisted Living in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, at the First Church of God in Brighton with the Rev. Rick Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the service, beginning at 9 a.m., at the church. Memorials for Hospice Compassus and the American Legion may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1915 Jackpine Loop, Fairfield, IA 52556. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hesseltine was born Oct. 9, 1924, in rural Brighton, the son of G. Franklin and Dora Mae (Parker) Hesseltine. He married Evelyn J. Spray on April 8, 1950, in Salem.
He grew up in the Washington and West Chester areas, where he attended school. He worked at several occupations, including heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Kaiser Construction Co., worked for Sasseen Plumbing and Heating in Richland before opening his own plumbing shop, and most recently worked for Pekin Community Schools as a custodian and bus driver. He enjoyed all outdoors activity but particularly hunting mushrooms, and fishing for catfish. He also enjoyed puzzles and tinkering with just about anything. He was a longtime member of the Friends church and most recently attended the First Church of God in Brighton.
Surviving are three children, Joy Lange and husband Mike of Pella, Jonnie Hesseltine and wife Nancy of Fairfield, and Lonnie Hesseltine and wife Chris of Richland; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on March 29, 2014; an infant child; an infant great-grandchild; three sisters, Katherine Harris, Mae Morrow, and Gladys Lowe; and nine brothers, Wayne, Rex, Alvin, Dallas, Gale, Sam, Harold ?Bubbles,? Gus ?Swede,? and Robert.
