John L. Jeffery, 85, of Salem, died Friday, November 19, 2021, at New London Specialty Care in New London.
The funeral service for John will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Salem Friends Church, Salem, IA. Pastor Debra Savage will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kimzey Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to New London Specialty Care Activity Dept. John Lee Jeffery was born October 30, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of John Galer and Arion Leila (Peiffer) Jeffery. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. John was united in marriage to Myrtle Margaret Rice. John was a longtime butcher and farmer. He processed both raised livestock and wild game. He also worked as a custodian for Iowa Wesleyan University and retired as a custodian from the former Bluebird Bus Company. John was a member of Salem Friends Church. He enjoyed deer hunting and raising produce in his garden, in which he delighted in sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors.
Those thankful for sharing in John's life include his wife, Myrtle of Salem; four stepchildren, Linda (Jon) Isaacman of Carter Lake, IA, Ronald (Penni) Rice of Kalona, IA, Margaret McCannon of Muscatine, IA, and Robin Hulen of Clinton, IA; one sister, Anna Williamson of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter-in-law, Tina Rice of Hedrick; three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren; a niece, Ginger Hulke of Sterling, IL; two nephews, Mark (Rachel) Williamson of Kansas City, MO, and Darrell Jeffery of South Dakota; three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
His parents; a stepson, Terry; a sister, Madia Arion Jeffery; and a stepgrandson precede John in death.
