John L. Schmidt, age 92, of Quincy, IL, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at 8:17 am in his home.

John was born May 21, 1931, in Barry, IL. Mr. Schmidt was the son of Glenn and Clara Tittsworth Schmidt. He married Virginia L. Clark on August 18, 1950, in Oakwood, MO. She survives.

John was raised on a farm west of Barry and graduated from Barry High School in 1949. He was of the Protestant faith. He retired from Gardner-Denver after 32 years as a machinist. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 - 1954.

Survivors in addition to his wife Virginia include: a daughter, Debra Kay (Lee) Muntz of Fairfield, IA; two

granddaughters, Jenifer Roe of Fairfield, IA, and Kristen (Cody) Nicholson of Batavia, IA; five great-grandchildren, A.J. Roe of Fairfield, IA, Katie (Trae) VanTassel of Libertyville, IA, and Mila, Emmitt, and Claria Nicholson of Batavia, IA; one great-great-granddaughter, Berkleigh VanTassel of Libertyville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank A. Schmidt and Gerald Schmidt; and two sisters, Barbara Lee Schmidt and Carrie Emma Schmalshof Askew.

Services: 10:30 am Friday, June 30, 2023, in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Dennis Sheppard officiating. Entombment will follow.
