John M. Hixson

John Milton Hixson, 93, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, in Parkview in Wellman.

Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 4, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial with military honors will follow at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Friday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be designated toward the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Iowa City or Hospice Compassus in the name of John Hixson.

Mr. Hixson was born May 11, 1923, in Richland, the son of Ralph and Ruth (Singleton) Hixson. He married Betty Miller on Nov. 18, 1947, in Columbus Junction.

He graduated from Richland High School and served during World War II in the Navy. He farmed his entire life in the Washington/Louisa county area, was past member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO), and enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Columbus Junction; one daughter, Connie Meyer of Naperville, Illinois; one son, Larry Hixson and wife Kathy of Brighton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leonard Hixson of Iowa City, and Dean Hixson of New Martinsville, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, infant sister, Melvine Nelson and Genevieve McKay.
