John Nicholas Barnett Sr., 69, of Birmingham, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020, at his home.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

John was born Jan. 6, 1951, in Mount Pleasant, to James and Lucile (Standley) Barnett. He married Pam Davidson on April 8, 1973. This year they celebrated 47 years of marriage.

John retired from the railroad as a flagman and contracted with Right of Way Consulting and worked for many years. It was at this time he started collecting railroad memorabilia. John enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and was a NASCAR fan. He was the first courtesy driver for the Jefferson County Health Center and delivered medicines for Hy-Vee Pharmacy before he retired.

He will be missed by his wife, Pam; two sons, Nick (Debra) and Casey (Heather) both of Eldon; one granddaughter, Hannah Barnett; two stepgrandsons, Drayton and Dawson Hamm; his sister, Marcella (Rick) Bradway of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucile; two brothers, James Jr. and Rick; and one half-brother, Christian.
