Jon H. Ballou, age 75, of Fairfax, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, February 24, 2023, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club Trap and Skeet Shooting – Cedar Rapids. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting Jon’s family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for the family at www.jonesfh.com.
Jon was born September 14, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Helen (Richards) Ballou. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1965. Jon attended mechanic school at Lincoln Tech in Des Moines, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Wanda Sigler of May 27, 1967.
Jon lived all of his life in Washington until moving to Fairfax in 2012 to be closer to family. He owned and operated Ballou Oil and LP Gas Company for many years and also owned and operated Ballou Backhoe and Trucking Company. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and fishing, and in his earlier days drag racing his 1967 GTX. Later in years Jon, his son Eric, and a close friend rebuilt an engine in a 1964 Dodge Polara drag car. Jon thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandson Cameron trap shoot.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ballou of Fairfax, Iowa; daughter, Vicki Ballou and Steve Oswalt of Keota, Iowa; son, Eric Ballou and wife Melea of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Cameron Ballou of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Emily Reding and husband Nick, Erin Ward and husband Cory; and Jacob Webber and wife Holly; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Ada Reding; and cousin, Jeanne Ballou Thompson.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Ballou; and sister, Kathy McClurg.
