KALONA ? Joseph E. Beachy, 100, of Kalona, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with the Rev. Don Patterson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Bethel Cemetery near Wayland. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the church, where the family will greet friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Mennonite Disaster Service. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Beachy was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Centralia, Missouri, the son of Emmanuel and Ruhama (Guengerich) Beachy. He married Pearl Stutzman on April 3, 1941, in Milford, Nebraska.
He and his wife lived and farmed in the Wayland community for 52 years, and had resided in Kalona since 2002. He was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, where he taught Sunday school and was superintendent, served as an elder and trustee, and sang in the Bethel Men?s Quartet for 45 years. He enjoyed volunteering with several organizations such as Mennonite Disaster Service and Crowded Closet.
Surviving are four children, Karen Kropf and husband Richard of Woodburn, Oregon, Ken Beachy and wife Nancy of Woodburn, Oregon, Roger Beachy and wife Joanna of Nordland, Washington, and Linda Marner and husband Dale of Kalona; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; one son, Wayne; four sisters, Nettie Gingerich, Lydia Miller, Sadie Yoder, and Mary Magdalene Beachy; and five brothers, Chris, Walter, Allen, William, and Rufus Beachy.
