Joseph R. Deutsch, Jr., 86, of Fairfield, died early Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. He was born in Brighton May 31, 1936, the son of Joseph Alfred and Margaret Lois Allison Deutsch, Sr. Joe grew up in the Pleasant Plain area and graduated in 1954 from Pleasant Plain High School. He married Kathryn Louise Leppert in Pleasant Plain February 4, 1956. Joe was a farmer, an animal health specialist, had been a member of the Iowa Army National Guard, and a member of SS Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain and St. Mary’s Church in Fairfield.

Joe is survived by his wife of Fairfield, 6 Children: Kirk Deutsch (Shelly) of Iowa City, Kraig Deutsch (Cathy) of Packwood, Paula Hecox (John) of Auburn Hills, Michigan, Don Deutsch (Kim) of Ollie, Carla Stone (Brian) of Fairfield and Gina Wells (Andrew) of Fairfield, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 7 Siblings: Karen Spence of Melbourne, FL, Janice Pacha of Bloomington, Illinois, Jim Deutsch (Barb Hammes) of Fairfield, Juanita Jeffrey (Dave) of Mt. Pleasant, Bob Deutsch (Sue Dickinson) of Fairfield, Ray Deutsch (Debbie) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Pam Deutsch (Rick Carlson) of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Scott.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church beginning at 9 A.M. Monday August 22, 2022. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 A.M. at the church in Fairfield with Rev. Nicholas Adam officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery in Richland. General memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1507 Dogwood Drive Fairfield, IA 52556. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
