Josephine "Jo" Chambers, 94, of Packwood, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at her home.
Jo was born April 30, 1927, in Fairfield to Raymond and Ferne (Godwin) Coop. She married Russell "Ike" Chambers on Dec. 12, 1948. He passed away April 13, 2002.
Jo was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County with her heritage being the original first settlers in Jefferson County. She had a beauty salon in her home for many years in Packwood. Jo also worked for the U.S. Postal service.
Jo was an excellent baker and cook. Some of her favorites were chocolate chip cookies, fried chicken and meatloaf. Jo was active in CWF and, when her health allowed, she was very active in the Christian Church and community activities. Jo followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and attended many of her grandkids' sporting events. What she loved most was spending time with her family and friends, and gardening. She was most happy in the kitchen with a house full of family.
Jo will be missed by her children, Doug Chambers of Richland, Cindy Bowermaster of Packwood, Kathy (Jerry) Allison of Monroe and Ray (Renota) Chambers of Packwood; eight grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Bowermaster of Bowling Green, Mo., Scott (Christy) Bowermaster of Fairfield, Kori (Matt) Teeter of Monroe, Sami (Sonia) Allison-Rodriguez of Monroe, Alex (Sarah) Chambers of Pleasantville, Brenna Chambers of Packwood, Evan (Lindy) Chambers of Fremont and Nellie Chambers of Missouri; two sisters, Colee Hospers of Iowa City and Rose Hendricks of Fairfield; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bates of Atlantic; multiple great- and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ferne; husband, Ike; three brothers; one sister; seven brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and one son-in-law.
A Celebration of Life service will be postponed and held at a later date.
